INTRODUCTION TO VIRTUALIZATION & STORAGE
Today's Data centre's and cloud environment have converged infrastructure and management tools and with the advent of Virtualization technologies like VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, external SAN and NAS Storage is becoming standards.
WHAT IS VIRTUALIZATION ?
Virtualization means to create a virtual version of a device or resource, such as server, storage devices, network or even an operating system where the framework divides the resources into one or more execution environments. Even something as simple as portioning a hard-drive is considered virtualisation because you take one hard drive and partition it to create two separate hard drives. Devices, applications and human users are able to interact with the virtual resources as if it were a real single logical resource. Virtualization can be -
1) Storage Virtualization :
The amalgamation of multiple network storage devices into what appears to be a single storage unit.
2) Server Virtualization :
The partitioning of a physical server into smaller virtual servers.
3) Network Virtualization :
Using Network resources through a logical segmentation of a single physical network.
